If you're a car owner, then you have to worry about little things like rock chips to your windshield. You can't completely prevent rock chips from happening, but you can take certain steps to help protect your car from this type of damage, such as by following the tips listed here.

Avoid Following Too Closely

For one thing, it is important to avoid following too closely behind others when you are driving. This is actually important for more reasons than one. Of course, if the driver in front of you slams on brakes, then you will want to make sure that you have plenty of space to slow down -- or come to a complete stop -- without any problems. However, if it's rock chips that you are worried about, making sure that you don't follow other drivers too closely is important, too. Drive Slowly on Gravel Roads

Next, if you ever end up driving on gravel roads or paths, it is important to drive carefully. For one thing, you might find that your car does not have the best traction when you're driving on a gravel road, and you could find that taking off or stopping can be a little tougher on gravel than it is on pavement or even dirt. Another concern that you should think about is the possibility of a piece of gravel being flung onto your windshield or your other auto glass. Driving slowly and carefully when you are on gravel roads or paths can help you protect your car from rock-related damage and can help you maintain control of your vehicle when you are driving, too.

Have Rock Chip Damage Repaired

Even if you are really careful about how you drive your car, there is always the possibility that your car could be damaged by rock chips. Rocks could hit your windshield and leave chips and cracks, for example, but a windshield repair professional may be able to hep with that problem without completely replacing your windshield. Additionally, if a rock hits the body of your car and leaves behind chipped paint or other visible damage, such as on your bumper, you can always take your car to a body repair shop to have the problem repaired.
